April Ipsy Bag

Here's what I got in my Ipsy bag this month:
Overall, I'm pretty impressed...lots of great products this time :)

1. Jelly Lip Gloss by Mary Kay at Play in Berry Me
What they say:
Turn up the volume with Mary Kay At Play™ color! It’s flirtatiously fun makeup you can remix-n-match to create your own color playlist. The Mary Kay At Play™ Jelly Lip Gloss has a fun jelly texture that offers brilliant, intense shine with a sheer wash of color.

What I say: I am not a lip gloss wearer at all. I prefer moisturizing lipsticks mainly because I hate the stickiness of lip gloss. This is a perfect example of that. This lip gloss is horribly sticky on the lips. In fact, it feels like I have straight up Elmer's glue on them. Yuck.

2. 24/7 Velvet Glide -On Eye Pencil by Urban Decay in Black Velvet
What they say:
A must for smoky-eye fanatics: an ultra-plush version of UD’s creamy, waterproof 24/7 formula. Create perfectly blended-out or rich, precise lines that are blacker-than-black.

What I say: I'm already a huge fan on these eyeliners, so I was pleasantly surprised to find one in my bag this month! They are so smooth and go on easily. Not to mention they last forever and the pigmentation is awesome. I love this rich black shade, great for everyday wear! In fact, out of all the UD eyeliners I have, this one is the darkest.

3. Jasmine Perfume Oil Roll On by Demeter
What they say:
An exotic, sweet, warm floral bouquet. Demeter’s Jasmine is the experience of the living flowers picked on a beautiful spring night. Wear alone or layer with your favorite Demeter fragrance. With over 250 fragrances, the Demeter Fragrance library is inspired by everyday objects and experiences.

What I say: I love the smell of Jasmine, so this was an automatic win in my book. It's not too overpowering (great for my migraines) and smells nice! I remember seeing this brand a while ago... they have some crazy scents like dirt, funeral home and gin & tonic, just to name a few. That makes me happy that I got Jasmine!

4. Microdermabrasion by dr. brandt
What they say:
The dr. brandt® microdermabrasion gently sweeps away dead skin cells and softens skin texture, which enables better absorption of skincare products and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, acne marks, and skin discolorations. A great at home alternative to professional clinical treatments. Safe to use for all skin types. For best results use with dr. brandt® skincare products.

What I say: I'll admit that I haven't actually tried this yet...it's in my pile of stuff I need to use! Hehe. I like exfoliaters that are really heavy duty, and this one sounds like it's just that. I'll let you know if it is a game changer or if it really sucks!

5. White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse by City Color
What they say: Brighten your eyes and cheekbones with the City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse. This smooth and creamy product is enriched with luminosity, providing a beautiful gold sheen finish. Use as an eye shadow base as well as a highlighter.

What I say: I thought this was just ok, nothing too extraordinary. It looked nice as a base under my eyeshadow and was a little too gold for a highlight against my pale skin. Overall, I wouldn't repurchase.

Here's a swatch of the shadow, liner and gloss:

A PSA: Why 'Sam & Cat' is THE Most Annoying Show. ever.

I have a public service announcement today and it's something that I just have to get off my chest.

I'm just going to come right out and say it:

Sam and Cat is the worst T.V. show in all kid-show existence. In fact, in all T.V. show existence and it needs to go away for good.

Surely, you've seen it by now as it seems like it's constantly on repeat. I know you may be thinking...."Hey Amber! Why on earth do you watch a show that's geared towards 10 year olds? "

The answer to that is that I am a part-time nanny and I also babysit a lot. I spend about half my day dressing up in princess clothes, playing Sorry and watching the Disney Channel. Not voluntarily, it's my job.

With that being said, I've seen about 5 episodes of said TV show, off and on. I can safely say that it makes me stabby.

The first (and probably most impactful) problem I have with it is Cat. (Ariana Grande or whatever.) HER VOICE. Oh my God. It is literally monotone/one pitch in the highest octave possible. I wish I could let you hear my amazing impression of it, because it's spot on. Please tell me if you've seen the show if you agree about her voice. It's like she's got a walking Disney Princess/robot voice. It.makes.me.crazy. I can hear it a mile a way. In fact, I can hear it in my head right now. Fingernails on a chalk board.  It's an issue.

My second problem I have with Cat is that she's a freaking idiot. Actually, she pretends to be an idiot. What the heck is she teaching our young girls? (I sound like my mother, I know.) ...that in order to be successful, funny and popular, you have to play dumb?!?! Don't even get me started. I want to shake her and all of her fans who look up to her as a role model and tell each one of them personally that intelligence is the sexiest damn thing a woman can have! Whatever happened to brains being hot? I think that needs to come back in style.

My next problem is WHY THE HECK ARE THEY NOT IN SCHOOL? Presumably they spend their entire day doing idiotic things at their house or on the streets. Maybe she wouldn't be so dumb if she was actually where she's supposed to be.... in school, like any normal teenager! There's no flippin' way these girls have graduated high school already. No way. Not even to mention college *shudder*  See problem #2.

Which leads me to my next question....uhhhh Where are their parents!?!?!??! Did they just abandon their daughters? Did they just leave them all on their own? What kind of parents leave their daughter with another unintelligent, hormonal teenage girl, to survive all on their own!?!

Also, has anyone thought of whose house they are living in? Some random fellow's? Maybe one of their deadbeat parents? Even more so, how in the heck do they even afford it? Much less have the latest gadgets (I don't even understand the iPear thing) and constantly ordering things on their version of Amazon.

Oh but wait, they have a "job".

Woah Nelly. Back it up...Apparently they run their own babysitting business. HAVE YOU SEEN THESE GIRLS? Much less even care for a child!!?! They are the worst freaking babysitters I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure my 4 year old dog could do a better job blindfolded than they do. For goodness sakes, they let an Amazon drone pick up the baby they are watching and carry it to God knows where. Then as if it can't get anymore terrible, they forget which baby is theirs when they go to retrieve it. Let me repeat. They 'FORGOT' which baby was theirs. Rocket science, kids. Rocket science.
Come. On.

I had to laugh because in this one particular episode I'm talking about, a lawyer came to 'their' (we haven't actually figured out WHOSE house it really is) house to serve them with a cease and desist letter because of their business name. HOW ABOUT BECAUSE THEY FLIPPING LOSE CHILDREN AND FORGET WHO THEY ARE!?!?!?!?!

I won't even mention in this post all of this drama. All I'm saying is this: What kind of role models are these two girls posing for our children, especially our daughters, nieces, sisters etc?

Sam and Cat. Go away. Forever.

An Afternoon Tea Party: A Modcloth Outfit Challenge

A couple weeks ago, my aunt asked me for some advice. She had a fancy tea party to attend and needed helping deciding what to wear.
The local inn in her hometown hosts a luncheon each month with a different theme, this month being "French inspired." She wanted to dress for the occasion, adding a bit of french flair without being so literal. (think black & white striped top with a beret and a freshly baked baguette)

Of course, the first thing we did was scour Pinterest for some ideas. While we didn't find exactly what we were looking for, eventually we created an outfit for her to wear taking a bunch of different ideas, adding them together and creating our own.

When Modcloth contacted me to create an outfit inspiration board featuring one of their dresses, I knew exactly what I was going to do: mash all those ideas we found and use that as my inspiration board. Thus 'An Afternoon Tea Party' was born:

I created the outfit to be centered around this gorgeous dress.

It's what your eye first draws to and is the main focal point of the look, so I wanted everything else to blend and the dress to really pop! This dress is perfect for the event, it's not too fancy but still classy and elegant; it can be both dressed up and down.
I added the cardigan because while technically it's spring, it was still a bit chilly. I'm a big fan of pattern mixing, so I love the look of the florals from the dress and the subdued hearts together.

One of the things we both agreed on was that wearing a hat was definitely necessary for the French tea party.
{as I typed in these names, I laughed...several are French... Less is Amour... Haute... purely unintentional ;) }

In fact, I can't think of anything more French than a quaint sunhat! This one is perfect; it reminds me of something very similar to ones worn the 1920's (très Francais!)  Anyway, I adore the retro look to it and I really feel like it would pull the entire outfit together.
Let's chat about these sandals, ok?
I am swooning over them! The scalloped edges, the gold, the ankle strap...dying over here! They are lovely. Not to mention how darling they'd look with this dress!

Now for accessories...

I purposefully kept the jewelry simple, as I didn't want to overpower the dress.
When I saw this necklace, I couldn't help but think of Alice in Wonderland. And once again, these octagon studs are very 'art deco' to me and just scream French!

Finally, I added this adorable tea pot...because how could I not!?!
Of course if you are going to a tea party, you absolutely need a cute tea pot, right!?
Ok, maybe I just think it's so deliciously cute.

So what do you think of this whole ensemble?
If you like it, you could help me win this contest!
Go check out my board on this awesome site Wanelo. It's a cool resource to create outfit boards and  make wish lists. If you want, check out my Afternoon Tea Party board here!

Modcloth is such a great store. I love all their dresses because most are so feminine and retro... I even bought my graduation dress from there! If you want to check out their other dresses, click here.

Merci et au revoir!

My Current 'To Read' List

So, I am pretty much a book hoarder. (You should know this by now.) I have a current stack of books on my nightstand and bookcase that are just waiting to be read. I honestly wish I could spend the entire day just reading them, but you know, life. Because I am always curious as to what others are reading, I figured I'd share whats in my current stack of books I need to read!

1.
Because The Fault in Our Stars was so great (huge understatement, legit.) I immediately ordered Looking for Alaska. The only reason I haven't read this one yet is because I am still in an emotional depression over TFIOS, and I hear I need to emotionally prepare myself for this one, too.

2.
I believe this is the only NS book I haven't read yet. I don't know, I wanna read it, but I'm not the best with memoirs. I get bored easily.

3.

I saw this one on the shelf and it just looked intriguing. The back summary sounded great, so for 40 cents, I picked it up. I think this might be the next one I read!

4.
I've been meaning to read this one since last summer because I think it will make for a great book to read on the beach. Obviously, I haven't been to the beach recently, so I probably just need to go ahead and read it.

5.

As shocking as it is, I've never read this book! It was never a classic we had to read in high school, and for some reason, it just slipped under the reading radar in my post high school years. I have a feeling I am going to love this book because 1984 is one of my top 3 favorite books and I hear they're pretty similar 'dystopian' story lines. Also, it's about books, so I'm pretty sure I'll love it.

Okay, so I think I'll stop with five for now. To be honest, there are actually several more books on my bookcase that are just waiting to be read, and you know what? I LOVE that. I love that I don't ever have to worry about what I am going to read next! (especially when I find most at thrift stores and only pay around 50 cents for them!)

Writers Block

So here's the deal. I've stared at that blinking cursor for the past hour trying my hardest to come up with something to blog about. You know what I've come up with?

Absolutely nothing.

I apologize for that, but rather than just type 'fluff' I'm trying to be more proactive about the choices I make as far as posting. I want this blog to be a sort of journal for me, but on other aspects, I love sharing about what I wear, makeup and etc with you readers! Because, you know what? That's a part of me, too.

Many people have asked me what my blog is and to be honest, currently I have no answer.  To sorta put it into words, it's become a collage of my life. I'm not just a fashion blogger, a beauty blogger, a lifestyle blogger (I think we can all safely say I will never be a food blogger! hehe). I am all of those things and then some.

You're probably thinking..."Where are you going with this, Amber?" and here's what:
I'm sure you may have noticed by now that I've added some new tabs up top ^. These little pages are a new way I am organizing my posts. Most should fit into one of those categories, but as always, there's always a little bit of miscellaneous in my life, so that's where the 'etc.' comes in.

Over the next few days, I am going to update all my previous posts, so that when you click on one of those categories, you'll find everything I've ever had to say about that on here! It's pretty time-consuming to go back through almost 400 posts, so bare with me. It might be a little bit before I have them all complete.

I'm kinda excited about all of this! Even though it's a small change, it makes me feel more organized and I hope it makes my blog easier to read for you guys too!

As always, I am always looking to evolve to be better at what I do (in all areas of my life), so that's where you guys come in.... Please email me or comment on this post if you have any suggestions or general thoughts or ideas to share with me. Each and everyone of you who read my little corner on the ol' interwebs make me happy, and I, of course, want to make you happy too! Let me know (kindly, please?) what you all think/feel/alloftheabove or just feel free to leave me a smiley face...or nothing at all. That's cool too ;)

Love you guys, thanks for reading! :) Oh and I have something REALLY exciting going on this wednesday! You don't wanna miss it. (Ok, ok, I don't want you to miss it!)

What WE Wore Wednesday

Hey y'all! I'm back sharing with you a few of the outfits I wore this week.
Here's what I wore to the awards ceremony friday:
Dress is from Kohls last year
Jacket-Goodwill
wedges- also goodwill

Earrings are from target!

Saturday, my friend (visiting from Idaho) and I rode the train into downtown Dallas. It was so much fun! Living in the suburbs definitely has it's fair share of setbacks...I love the city. Everything is so lively and all of the hustle and bustle just makes me want to move downtown.
We had planned on going to dinner and then going up into the Reunion Tower, but we ended up laughing and chatting too long at the restaurant, it closed! So we ended up just sitting in front of the JFK memorial, people watching and giggling while munching on tiramisu. It was a fantastic night.
All that's to say, here's what we wore:
Isn't she just drop dead gorgeous!?!?! The long blonde hair, her model-esque figure and beautiful, jaw-dropping smile; she's quite the trifecta! Not only that, but she's beautiful on the inside and out.  It kinda hurt standing next to her all night...hehehe, I kid, I kid.

Anyway, we wanted to dress up a bit but still look sorta casual.
My outfit:
Top is Coldwater Creek from the outlet store
Jeans-Goodwill
Wedges-once again, goodwill
My little pins in my hair were a gift from another friend...thanks Ev!
and the necklace is from franchescas

Alli's outfit:
her dress is from Marshalls. It has the most gorgeous black and gold lace back...I wish I had a pic!
Sandals are target I believe.
I just wanna steal all the hair off her head, it's so dang pretty!

and just because...
If I had one picture to describe our friendship, it'd be this:
Yeah. We've been friends for over 5 years and yes I am posting this for the entire internet world to see...hahaha!
Love you Alli!

T-Shirt OBSESSED

I have a guilty obsession, and it's something I need to tell you about. I've been lying to you.

I know I started the whole WIWW thing to get out of my former uniform: t-shirts and jeans... but lately, all I wanna do is wear t-shirts.

I mean have you seen them recently? They've really stepped their game up.
The other day I bought this one:
I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and ever since I got it in the mail, I haven't wanted to take it off. Legit. If you don't understand it, we pretty much can't be friends.
How freaking awesome is it to support one of your favorite books of all time ON YOUR BODY!?!?!! I can't even. Cant. Even.

Speaking of favorite books...

I LOVE THIS! Again, one of many favorite books out there, but how adorable is this?!?!
Not to mention that it says Le Petit Prince not The little Prince...
it's the small things, guys.

I don't even know how else to describe how excited this makes me. The fact that T-shirts with novels on them even EXSIST IN THE FIRST PLACE makes me want to scream (good screams) and then to have my favorites ones on shirts makes it 100X better. For real.

This is another one of those that if you don't understand we can't be friends. ever.
I reeeeeally want this one, in fact, I think I might have to have it. HAVE to.

yeah, this one has my name allllllll over it.
My wallet is looking pretty scared right now. ha!
(I should probably stop saying this but.... if you don't get this we can't be...
OK, OK I'll let this one slide)

Then, there are some pretty darn hilarious ones out there, too!
For example:
YES YES YES 100X YES!

If there was a shirt out there to describe my sense of humor, it'd be this one.

no wait, maybe this one!!?!!?!
I literally snort every time I see this one.

Now, don't even get me started on band tees. The Killers have some pretty awesome ones out there... but I shall refrain from sharing them with you.

What do you think... Are tees no longer frumpy?  Have they transformed into a way of self-expression?

I think so!

*BUY ALL THE TSHIRTS!*

Wait, What? I Won a Writing Award!?!?!

One afternoon, I received a phone call. It wasn't a number I recognized, but something told me to answer it anyway. I'm so glad I did because it was a call from my former college telling me that I placed in their creative writing contest and was invited to the ceremony in a few days (today)!

I wrote a piece for my creative writing class last semester and part of our grade was submitting it somewhere.

I chose the contest my school did for the entire state for not only college students but nonprofessional writers...
and out of 700 entities, I placed fourth! I was literally shocked.
I don't really consider myself a 'writer' because
A. I have terrible grammar skills
and B. My paper wasn't even really that good. It was just a paper I wrote for that course.

I think it's funny because I only got a B on the paper in my class... I kinda wanted my professor to be there so I could show her that I actually won an award for that B! Hehehe.

Anyway, if you're curious, my piece was a short story about the repercussions of hit-and-run accidents. (It was actually meant to be somewhat of a fable) It's titled "The Green Balloon".
Who knows, maybe I'll share it on here sometime!

After the ceremony, my brothers and I celebrated by eating at Red Robin.
It's been a great start to the weekend, that's for sure!

Recent Drugstore Favorites

Today I thought I'd share a few beauty products I've been loving lately!

Let's start with the face stuff, shall we?
Going clockwise...
I picked this up at Target because I needed a good highlighter. I have to say I probably wouldn't have purchased ($13.99, are they crazy?!?!?!) this if it didn't have a buy 1 get 1 free coupon attached to it. But I'm glad I did. It's the most gorgeous pearly pink shimmer that really makes the face look bright and healthy!
You can see above how it catches the sunlight beautifully.

I guess technically this was free (thanks to that awesome coupon!) I had heard great things about these, especially that they were great dupes for those crazy expensive Bobbi Brown ones. These are very pigmented and great swirled all together or used separately. I like using these as eyeshadows, and it's a great way to add warmth to your skin as a bronzer.
Far left is all swirled together and right are each of the shades

I picked this up initially because a completely matte bronzer is sorta hard to come by. I love that I can pick which color I want to use, whether it's the lighter, darker or a mix of all four shades. It's perfect for contouring, too! I got this for $3.50 at Big Lots so go pick one up for yourself!
(I swirled my finger in all four shades for the above swatch)

This concealer rocks. It covers my dark circles and doesn't make my look like I have makeup caked on. I highly recommend it!

This was one of those impulse buys at target. It was marked down to $7 at almost 70% off. I figured I'd try it and if I didn't like it, I'd return it. Ha! It is crazy pigmented and the shades are all gorgeous. If you don't want to fork the money over for those Naked palettes, I recommend running to Target to get this. The shades remind me of all three of those palettes and are just as good.
I didn't realize that this was a limited edition so if you want this go to Target ASAP!

Anyway, these were just a few beauty items I've using and loving lately.

WIWW: 1 Graphic Tee- 4 Ways!

While shopping at an outlet mall with my grandma and dad, we stumbled across the 'perfect' tee shirt for myself.
I loooove bikes and often daydream about riding my bike down the river Seine with flowers in my basket. My grandma, aunt and I even have a board dedicated to bikes on Pinterest!
So when I saw this shirt, we all knew I needed to have it. As we finished the rest of our shopping trip, I kept imagining all the different outfit combinations I could create with it (please tell me I'm not the only one who does that!)
Thus, this post was born. Here's how I wore the same graphic tee (which is just perfect for spring!) 4 different ways!

1. Maxi skirt and statement necklace:
The first way I wore it was with this maxi skirt. This was the most comfy outfits ever....maxi skirts are basically fancy-fied sweat pants. No joke!
Pink cardigan-Jcrew via Goodwill
Tee-Loft Outlet
Maxi skirt- LC for Kohls, yard sale find
Necklace-Everyday Icing stolen from my mom (thanks mom!)
Wedges which you can't really see- Goodwill

2. Jean jacket and sandals
I can't believe it's already time to break out my sandals...which only means one thing: I need to get a pedicure! I have to say this outfit was the one I felt the most 'me' in. My jean jacket is a staple in my closet and I loved how it looked with the tee!
Jacket-Old Navy via Goodwill
Pants-Loft clearance (a $6.88 score!)
Sandals-Kohls
Earrings-no clue...maybe target?

3. Moto jacket and Converse
I wore this outfit when I was in Ohio and needed a heavier jacket. I love pairing edgy items with more feminine pieces! My aunt called this look "My hipster outfit".  :)
By the way, she did my hair in this picture...isn't it awesome! I wish she was closer to do my hair everyday, hehehe!
Jacket- Kohls
Black jeans-Loft
chucks-DSW
Earrings(my fav ever!)- Target

4. Flowy skirt and bright cardigan:
I think this is my favorite look of them all! This one felt very Parisian chic to me, what do you think?
Cardigan-Old Navy
Skirt-Goodwill
Necklace-Forever 21
Flats-TJmaxx

and believe it or not, I still have other ideas with this tee rolling in the back of my head! But I suppose I will stop with 4 for now.

March Travels: Photo Dump + Recap

This is one of those posts thats more for my memory rather than for your entertainment...sorry!

Anyway, March was nuts for me. As I'm sure you picked up,  3 out of 4 weeks I was out of town visiting family, and it was nothing short of awesome! So today, I am just going to share a bunch of photos from both of my trips.

The first trip I went on was a road trip out to my grandparents out in Georgia. It was a 12 hour trip that turned into a 15 hour trip because of stupid Texas traffic.

We went through several states that I can't even think of right now, but I know Louisiana was one of them...haha!

When we finally arrived, we went straight into adventure. My Aunt Tee, cousins, brothers and I climbed 2 waterfalls.

We hiked, swam at the lake, bowled and toured Point Park, a key point in the Civil War.

We even snapped some family photos!

The week came and went so fast, the road trip home kinda snuck up on us. Good thing our route went right through West Monroe and we stopped at the Duck Dynasty Headquarters.

 We even saw Jase!

I was one for exactly one day before I packed up and headed to Ohio! Actually, it was nice, I didn't even have to unpack my suitcase.

My sweet cousin Will...this picture cracks me up! (That's homemade Mac and Cheese he's coveting)

I got to hang out with my Aunt Denise, Uncle Jon and my cousins for a bit. We had so much fun together, if you can't tell from that picture above! Hahaha!

Then, that weekend, we packed up and drove out to West Virgina to visit with my grandparents, my dad and other cousins. I hadn't seen them in 4 years....too long in my book!
That Friday, we went out to Dinner at the famous Wells Inn and after went to a Frank Sinatra show. For some reason, I don't think we took any pictures of this...bummer!

Saturday we went to an outlet store and had a blast trying on things...some to be featured here on WIWW.

All of us ladies, we really did shop until we dropped!

After the weekend was over, my Memaw, dad and his wife headed out to where he lives, Pittsburgh! I got to spend a week in the freezing cold!

We spent the week shopping and touring the city. Pittsburgh is beautiful!

Wednesday, we visited the Flight 93 memorial which was very moving. I'm glad that I can say that I've been there.

ignore my face in this picture ^
Then on Thursday we drove out to Gettysburg! I can't find any pictures of that either for some reason, but it was a lot of fun. I was so happy to get to go because my Nana and Papa up in Georgia live close to the battle of Chickamauga  and Chattanooga, so I can now say I've been to three of the major battles of the Civil war... very cool!

Once again, the week flew by and it was time to head back to Ohio to spend my last few days with my lovely family out there again. (There needs to be a term to refer to Aunt, Uncle and cousins so I don't have to type all that LOL!)
I've never laughed and smiled so much, my cheeks literally burned...they all crack me up! We played this game until like 2 am one morning, it's so much fun, you should play it.

On my last day, my aunt took me to the coolest store ever: Big Lots. No joke, it's really cool! I couldn't believe that I had never really shopped there before. Not only do they have the coolest candy (Crush flavored licorice, anyone?), but their makeup section is to die for. The above picture is me trying on their hats :)

At the airport, I had tears in my eyes just thinking about all the amazing memories we made. It was such a fun month and I was sad it was basically over. I was sorta sad that I had to get back to reality (hello work!) and back into my routine.
Thank you to each and every one of you who made this such an amazing trip! (You know who you are)
